Much of the extensive research I conducted into Earth energies and Megalithic cultures before writing Dolmen could not be included in the novel. However, many topics of interest may be found on my website: www.jiroolcott.com . You can access my BLOG from the website too, so please feel free to write in your comments.
Enjoy!

Congratulation to Jane!
Jane Clarke's picture book 'Stuck in the Mud' (illustrated by Garry Parsons)
has just won the Foundation Stage of the Nottingham Children's Book Award.
Jane wins a small cash prize and a paid trip to Nottingham, but she says the
most important thing is knowing that it was the children themselves who
voted for it.

The announcement of the results of the HappenStance Short Story Competition was delayed due to the large number of entries received, but the prizewinners have finally been posted on the HappenStance website. And despite the record entry, there's good news for a Deal Writer.
CONGRATULATIONS to Jo Field for winning second prize!
Judge Susie Maguirewas full of praise for Jo's story, Wrong Bus:'Like the first-prize winner, this story demonstrates the differences between a character’s desires or intentions and their actual behaviour. Here, it’s the gradual change in the central character from his interest in the glimpsed profile of a young woman to obsession and stalking, and then a final and ambivalent gesture. We are in the skin of (and can feel sympathy for) the character until almost the end, and I liked the way the writer shows the man looking for signs confirming his delusion. Though the pace is slow, it builds momentum nicely and has a haunting, cinematic quality, especially in the final few nail-biting ‘frames’.'
Excellent stuff! Well done, Jo.

Who we are,
Established 2005, we are a group currently made up of around twenty writers living in and around the east Kent coastal town of Deal. We are always delighted to welcome anyone with an interest in writing, and whether you are new to writing or a long established author, Deal Writers will have something of interest to you.
Our membership includes all levels, from beginners through to published authors, and all genres including fiction (for both adults and children) and non-fiction, poetry and drama. We hold two 'main' meetings each month in the centre of Deal. These meetings usually take the form either of workshops to provide constructive feedback on members’ work-in-progress or of talks from guest speakers about all aspects of the writing business. In addition we hold smaller, informal 'specialist' meetings for novelists, poets and children's writers.
Prospective members are welcome to come along to our meetings, before deciding whether to join our very friendly group.
We meet on the first and third Thursday of every month from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm
at Dealability, 43 Victoria Road, DEAL Kent CT14 7AY
