Dear all - following Jak's storming suggestion to set Challenges to support thematic and local interest topics, here's 'Challenge 1' in a series of forthcoming local challenges.

For this Challenge (and after some thought on the suggestions on the evening), please write a piece - fiction or non-fiction , poetry or prose - inspired by a local BUILDING or piece of ARCHITECTURE. The 'building' should be central to the piece, rather than incidental and the reader should feel that they are there and that being there MATTERS !

Local is East Kent - day trip distance - anyone further than Herne Bay, Ashford or Rye will be deemed lost.

Other than that - no rules. No restrictions on length, words, style ... ok, one rule – Don’t write about your house, your bedroom, your garage! Allotments sheds are OK.

There will be two prizes, not necessarily for prose and poetry. It would also be good to have a suggestion for a 'title' for this 'putative collection' (cv. Gary's 'Living on the Edge' to come).

Send to Ron at anne.ogilve1@btopenworld.com by April first ... I'm not fooling :-)
